Dean Dallas???????

Post by Earnie Sumerall »

Does anyone know of a PSG player by the name of Dean Dallas? I found an old album by Dean Dallas and the Doughboys. Some great playing, but I don't recall ever hearing his name.

I don't know if this is correct however I got this from a guy that should know. Dean Dallas was an alias that Pete Drake used prior to becoming famous. I hope this fellow was not pulling my drumstick

Yes, Pete Drake was his name and it is a very fine album. I hope it is in good condition.

I was pretty sure it was an alias for either Pete Drake or Buddy Emmons. The Pete Drake tone was there, but the style and licks were not. Maybe he developed that at a later date.

I contacted my friend, the one with some smart and he had heard that Pete used Dean Dallas due to contractual restrictions. He says to not take this as gospel though.

I've had the album for years and years, and it sure does sound like Pete Drake. Some of the songs, Slowly,Half A Mind,When Two Worlds Collide,Long Black Veil,A Fallen Star,I Miss You Already,It Makes No Difference Now,Release me, A Satisfied Mind and When Your House Is Not A Home.I call it easy listening type steel, ala Pete Drake. It's on the Cumberland Records label.I have the Mono version of it and it still sounds great.Cumberland Records was a Divison of Mercury Records Productions Inc., and didn't Pete record for Mercury Records. Correct me If I'm wrong, any way I'll sleep well tonight. 73's guys...
