Yes Mike that is the Genius of Pete Fisher {Ahem} Opry Mgr. Who after observing Staff band members, decided changes are needed. These are some of his Ideas of sending the opry into the next milinium. Johnny Russell should have been sitting on her. Ain't this a bunch of excrement.

I'm very tolerant of all types of music, but she was just bad. I don't think it was her style or anything like that. That woman simply does not belong on a stage, in my opinion.
I was amazed by how fast Earl Scruggs played. He was a lot faster than the rest of the band. They just couldn't keep up with him! Incredible!

I wonder if Pete (no ears)Fisher was "observing"last night. I know Billy Linneman was . He stayed with the camera during the Andy Griffith segment.I wonder what changes old Bill will recommend to Pete.(whoops excuse me Mr.Fisher sir).

I didn't see the Opry broadcast since I was working that night, but I know Kelly and she is a very talented singer, though somewhat of a shy performer onstage.
Kelly came to Austin about 12 years ago, when she was like 19, and she had excellent vocal chops for a relatively inexperienced singer. Her problems at that time were a general inability to come up with the gift of gab between songs.
She's had a couple of record deals, but did not want to put up with the manipulative bullsh*t the record companies accosted her with. So she either bailed or let them drop her through passive aggression. But she is not finished as a performer. She does have too much talent for that.
Her husband, btw, is singer/songwriter/recording artist Bruce Robison; Bruce is the brother of singer/songwriter/recording artist Charlie Robison; Charlie is the husband of Emily Erwin, who I understand is in a moderately successful chick band.
So it's all in the family.

Please don't judge her based on what you saw/heard last night. If you have a chance, check out her performance on Austin City Limits with Marty Muse on steel and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Maybe it is not fair to judge an act on the strength of one performance. However,It was not a strong showing even taking into consideration the nervous-ness of an Opry guest appearance..."When in Rome do as the Romans" When in Countryville sing a country song ... If that is her best latest release effort Ok I am sure it will sound better with the studio editing. I also have not heard her before so it was easy to make a poor showing judgement. And it's usually a first impression they say that is the lasting one.... The material did nothing to impress me..Even a fiddle and Steel can't play NA NA NA NA NA NA NA . I might say the same about the Wilkersons, the boy sang flat until he went into the Harmony part.Ok points for youth,However he is getting paid pretty well to sound bad.. Now this is supposed to be a Major Act with constant airplay... I am sure that someone see's $$ signs with another energy Kid & PoP act.. It will be nice to hear Paycheck back soon and singing again, soon I hope... Ever count on your hands the pure country Acts that are still out there touring. It's scary...I have heard the "live"Opry has another $hit line-up the 20th.

I've seen her on several other shows over the years and I kind of like her music a little bit and I think she's one hot looking babe! But, I've never really been able to understand her words when she sings. She slurs and runs things together where it's just to dang hard to decipher what she's saying so I just listen to the melody and enjoy looking at her and dreaming! But aside from all that I think the song she sang on the Opry was terrible although the Na Na's at the end were far better than they were at the start.

Wow! I’m disappointed. I got home late and thought I’d check the 11:30 re-run of GOO Live. I changed my mind when I saw Sheriff Andy and Earl Scruggs on. Had I know Kelly Willis was going to appear, I’d have stayed up.
My brother loaned me some of her recordings and I recall some pretty good singing and steel work—traditional material too. Now I guess I’ll have to go back and listen with a more critical ear. Until then, I’m with Herb. Everyone can have a bad night.

Kelly had a record deal a few years back, and I really liked her material. She has her own style. Some like it some don't.
In defense of Tyler with the Wilkinsons, this was his first time being featured on the Grand Ole Opry. I'm sure he was nervous,
he's just 16. I have the first cd and he doesn't sing flat! They are fresh & young and I'm hoping the best for this musical family.
