All my exes live in Texas

Post by Nic du Toit »

I've searched the Tablature section, but no luck. Can anyone please help me with the C6 intro in the original key? I assume this was done on C6. This is from a George Strait album. I do play my own version, but I know I'm missing something somewhere. Thanks a lot.

Hi Nic

There is a Jeff Newman Woodshed Workshop - No 17 that also gives you the intro on C6th. Trouble is it is deleted from the Jeffran catalog.

Let me know if you cant find a copy and I will search it out for you.

Clive,
Thanks for the tip. I'll follow it up. We have been trying to order stuff from Fran, but some for reason we seem to hit a snag somewhere.
Anyway, maybe someone will post the tab.
As I've said, I do play my own version of it but maybe the original is played with a different pedal setup. It will be interesting to see what the guys will come up with.

Peter; that looks suspiciously like MY Tab.????

Yes Ricky, it is. I must apologise, I forgot to post the credits. (It was way after midnight)

Gary mentioned that it was on the Ricky & Rebel site, so I assumed that people would recognise that I posted the TAB from that site. (I posted it for Nic because the site is offline)

It certainly was not my intention to take the credit for this. And I am sorry for the confusion. I will edit my post accordingly.

Peter,
Thanks.
I tried getting onto the 'Rebel' site.
Now I can see where those 'slides' are.
It seems I was not far off the mark.
Thanks to all who responded to my plea!

Hey Peter; no worries my brother. I don't have a problem with being credited or not> don't care> but I was wondering where you got that seeing the "Rebel and Ricky" site was down??
Did you save it many moons ago; or have you access to the tab on that Site?? I have about half of what I tabbed; saved on my computer; but the other half is on the site.
Good job posting it; as that is the main reason for it> To help others.

Just found out that Rebel and Ricky's Tab website is UP and running strong! So all you steelers take advantage and connect to it.

Hey Ricky,
I just keep an off-line version (backup) of the site on my computer. Just in case... Image
I am fully aware and respect Grahams rights, which he expressed on the Forum previously. Image

Nic, Great TAB! and thanks for the Table edit version of it.

Peter,

The intro is played on the C6th tuning.

(s) = a slide to the next instruction without restriking the strings.

s = a very quick slide to the next instruction without restriking the strings.

~ = sustain

Paul,
What a pleasant surprise to see your posting. You may not remember, but I won't forget meeting you at Jeff Newman's place during April 1980. Together with Buddy, Hal and Doug you entertained us learners with some great playing.
The tab I posted earlier is one of two ways that I play this. The 'slide' on fret 3 (with 5 &6 ) was the part that I was not so sure about. Now I know.
Thanks again.

Thanks Nic,
Those were fun days. I miss Jeff. I didn't see your tab. I posted mine because the tab I saw posted was pretty far off in spots from what I actually played on the record and I had the time to respond.

The important rhythmic parts are the slides into the first and fourth notes of the melody. Also the pedal movement at the third fret. Without those sliding moves its very hard to put any emotion into it and I believe it might sound a bit stiff or mechanical. Chalker was a master at utilizing the quick slide into the notes he wanted to swing. Anyway its something to consider. The quick slide or gliss is a great tool for musical expression.

Thanks for the correct tab Paul. My tab attempt on the C6th(I'm not fluent) is the first section that Peter posted above. I also drew up some tab for the guys that don't have C6th; so they are able to get close on the E9th; that Peter posted also. These were a request a few years ago for the "Rebel and Ricky" site and were my Feeble attempts..ha.
You'da man.

Paul,
Playing the bare notes is one thing, but to get expression is another. That is what I'm trying to get, though.
The very last group on the 2nd fret, with the 5th pedal providing the 'slide' into the 7th sound made me go 'aaargh', as I realised that I want to take the 'easy' way out and just slide the 7th from fret 4 to 3. The voicings you used make much more musical sense.

Paul Sir:

Thank you. I had this very close but the pedal slur at 3rd fret is what I was missing. This has haunted me for years. Thanks, thanks, thanks. George
