Re: Ralph Mooney copedent
Sorry if I'm butting in here. I'm obviously not Ricky, but I'll leave this until Ricky gets here. I found an older thread about Ralph's tuning in the 80s Sho-Bud days with Waylon. After that, he played GFI guitars so his tuning may have changed or been modified by then.
I just watched an old show from back in the day where Marty Stuart called Mooney up for a couple tunes on the Sho-Bud. I had forgotten how unique and the stylist that Ralph was.
As I recall, his E9 tuning was on the back neck and his front neck was primarily a G tuned, as in dobro, setup. Maybe Ricky knows the exact sequence.
Here is a shot of Moon's E9 tuning as printed in an 80s edition of the Steel Guitarist magazine as posted by our friend Chris Lucker.

I remember seeing that in the magazine at the time. I can’t imagine him having the G and the F# on the left side like that. I’m pretty sure he played with both feet and when he wanted those notes he would use his right foot. Here’s another version of his set up that reflects that.

Re: Ralph Mooney copedent
You may be right. I'm just reposting what was published in the article. It was May 1980 when he was playing a Sho-Bud with Waylon. I do recall that he used both feet. I forgot who wrote the SG article, but even Ralph stated at the time that he couldn't really even recall what his setup was except that one of his pedal changes was "real pretty".
Ralph's legacy goes way back to the 40s so there must have been many guitars and changes to them through the years.
I'll butt out and let someone who acutally knows Mooney's times of guitars and tunings and his history....because there's a lot of it way before I came along or knew anything about him.

Yes Larry; Jerry has it right with that info there and I'm sorry I never knew Ralph's G Tuning sequence of notes; I never asked him cause when he was my Neighbor in the Mansfield, Tx area; I would go visit him and fix volume pedals for him; but just never asked about the G tuning> sorry.

It was an old Austin City Limits show from back in the 80s IIRC Scott. Marty's Rock and Roll Cowboy Band with Ray Flacke, Larry Marrs et al. I believe I saw it on Circle TV. They aired a lot of the old ACL shows when they used to actually have country music etc. A Circle TV ACL series... country revival hosted by Ray Benson.
If I can find a link to it, I'll post it here. Here 'tis:

Well, it was 1990 and I'm only seeing one song with Ralph. I thought they did a couple with him. Could be this video cut one or my memory is just that good.
