Verso Log lap steel
I just saw this new Verso Log lap steel on YouTube and thought I'd share:

https://versoinstruments.com/log-lapsteel/
It's a hollow metal lap steel with moveable pickups and other unique design features.
I have no interest in picking one up (699 euros!), but it certainly is unique.

Certainly interesting. And sales are good enough that he’s stopped taking new orders until he can catch up.

Yeah, there's another thread running on the New Product Announcements board. Probably ought to be combined.

Re: Verso Log lap steel
Looks like a pain to tune. Either the tuning machines are underneath the headstock, or you need some special tool. That’s concerning.
Also, I’m a bit wary of the design and stability of the nut and saddle over time.
Other than that, it looks like a cool idea, especially for sound design and foley studio work. But it doesn’t seem practical for performing live.
But a cool new toy is its own reward. Looks like it’s a fun playground to explore.

The tool for tuning is shown there. The tuners are like those on a dulcimer and uses the same tool it appears.
Interesting...I like it but it's a little pricey for me at the moment. Maybe later.

My guess is, that like new things vs old, the keyed tuners actually work pretty well (vs. a dulcimer that has been idling in a damp basement for 5 decades). Believe me, I’ve been there.Jerry Overstreet wrote: 6 Mar 2026 7:12 am The tool for tuning is shown there. The tuners are like those on a dulcimer and uses the same tool it appears.

For purists or traditionalists, it might feel a little blasphemous (I overstate, perchance). But things evolve… two moveable pickups with a steel bar placed under the middle of the strings, played like a harp thru differing stereo fx… that brings the basic lapsteel way into the future.
I put myself on the waiting list, essentially giving myself 12-18 months to save up $ or change my mind. AARP suggests mental challenges are good for us as we age.
