Favorite single coil pickup?

Post by Cartwright Thompson »

Just looking for opinions on what people like for current production single coil pickups. I’m leaning towards something from Jerry Sentell but wondering what else is out there.

I have never been disappointed with vintage Emmons and Truetone singke coil pickups, I also really liked humbucking ones from Telonics and George L. Anything newer is beyond my knowledge.

I agree on the original Emmons and TrueTone pickups. However, I had an Emmons single coil repaired and rewound by Scott Swartz at Steeltronics. Absolutely stellar!

Lap steel or PSG

Post by Greg Forsyth »

Hi Cartwright,
Are we talking a single coil for a lap steel or a pedal steel guitar?

I’m looking for a replacement for a friend’s GFI 10 string. I agree about Emmons pickups, I’ve never had one that I didn’t like and Jerry Wallace was the best, I miss him.
I was hoping to find something that I could just order new, I’ll check out Clay’s offerings.

I’ll second Dale’s post.
I have Clay Alden 18.5 pickups.
One is a custom height pickup for a GS-10 practice steel.
I haven’t played them in a noisy electric environment yet but super quiet at home.

That's actually a humbucker with a single row of pole pieces.

I've settled on Mullen for two of my three Sho Buds. Go figure.
