Marlen D12 8x4 questions on c6th setup

Post by Austin Garrett »

Hello,

Ive recently purchased a Marlen D12 8 pedal 4 knee lever pedal steel. It came with zero information and I'm having a difficult time figuring out the copedents and tuning on the bottom c6th neck.

Im pretty much a novice pedal steel player only have messed with student models prior.

I will upload pictures on the next post.

For tuning I just tried to get it close to what it shipped with.
Currently tuned (low to high) is C-D-F-A-C-E-G-A-C-E-G-A

The knee levers do nothing on the bottom c6th neck

Pedal 5 lowers the 7th string a whole step and raises the 12 string a whole step
pedal 6 raises 4th string 1\2 and raises 8th a whole step
pedal 7 raises 5th and 6th strings a whole step
pedal 8 is pretty out of whack but from what I can guess it raises the 9th string a whole step and lowers the 11th string a 1\2 step

does this make sense to anyone?

The open tuning should be like this (starting on the treble side):

D B G E C A G E C A F C

This should translate on your pedals to a standard C6 setup, with two chromatic strings on top. Another way of saying that is strings 3-12 are a standard C6 tuning
