Joe's Blues Song From Sierra Steels' Video 8 - Tab
This is the tab for the blues number Joe Wright plays at the end of the Sierra Steels E9 lessons number 8. He plays this at the very end of the lesson, starting at about 23:30. You can find this lesson here:
http://www.sierrasteels.com/lessons/e9th-lessons.html
I like his lessons, and still need to do many of the drills he teaches, but sometimes what he plays without an explanation interests me more than what he explains – and this blues number is a good example. It is chock full of interesting blues licks. So, I decided to watch the video and tab it out so I could disect it and learn. Well, that was a lot harder than I realized.... even with his multi-cam setup showing every angle imaginable. I have great admiration for you guys who tab out stuff just from a record!
A huge thank you to Joe for putting these lessons together, and to Sierra Steels for posting them and making them available to all free.
This tab does not stand alone – you pretty much have to watch the video to get the timing down. However, if, like me, you find tab easier to follow than a video, this will help you get these licks down.
You can access the PDF of this tab here:
no longer available. I have instead put higher def. images in this post. Enjoy!
Some notes:
First, I am sure there are errors, both in my attempt to figure out what he is doing, and just from me getting cross-eyed typing this all out.
There is a lot of vamping – chords that are repeated quickly, or maybe two that alternate quickly, as many as 7 times. Instead of writing this out, I wrote under the section an “X” and the number of times to repeat.
Edit, 5/12/25: With recent update to the forum I can ditch the old images and have uploaded better quality ones. Doug

I did not get the "sharing" settings right on the document in G-drive for the PDF. I have changed them now so that anyone with the URL can access it. If you have any problems, please let me know.
And BTW, I'd rate this as intermediate level stuff, not beginner-level, so if you have not watched Joe's videos because you are past the level they are aimed at, you may want to check out this song - there's a good chance he has a lick or two you've not heard!

Eddie - I put better images into the original post, so they are more legible now. I don't have them on my drive anymore. That was years ago! Ha! But you should be fine just downloading the images in the original post above.

Douglas,
Thanks so much for tabbing this out. Unfortunately the link to the Google doc isn't working but the images are super helpful.
Much appreciated,
Mike
