Looking for MSA Replacement Foot Pedal Ball Joint

Post by Jack K. Murphy »

I recently purchased and am in the process of restoring an MSA classic with 4 foot pedals and 3 knee levers. It has all of the right parts as far as I can tell, but the pedal ball rod joint that connects the foot pedal lever to the foot pedal is slightly too large (maybe a millimeter or so) to fit into the mouth of the foot pedal lever socket. Is there any way for acquire another one of those from anyone on here, or do I need to buy a whole new foot pedal? I saw you can buy similar screw-on-ball-and-socket, but I have no way of knowing what’s going to fit. It’s pretty difficult to find an exact matching part.

The 1 on the left looks like a metric mortar forker size, Get out the dial caliper and check the ball dimeter, Of both.

They had so much trouble in our Ace Hardware, They moved the metric fitting to another isle. So parts dropped on floor will not get mixed with fractional inch parts. An vice versa.

Jack, PM me your address and I'll send you a ball stud.

FWIW, for future reference, your MSA uses size 10-32 threaded sleeve socket that fits your pedal rod as well as a 10-32 thread ball socket that screws into your pedal.
Complete socket and ball part can be ordered from the steel guitar store. Link here:

Jerry, appreciate you helping a newbie like me. I’ve DM’d you my address. I wasn’t even aware of that store, but I’ll be using it in the future. Thanks!

When you install that stud, make sure that there is NO space between the stud flange and the pedal surface. Sometimes the holes can be shallow or the stud too long. You may have to grind a bit off the end of the stud for it to come up flush. If you have any space and leave it like that, you WILL end up breaking the stud off in the pedal. Then you have a real problem!

I've seen it too many times.

These quick connects are supposed to be made to an ANSI standard but I found long ago that the ball and the socket are not always interchangeable. That's why I only sell them as a complete unit.

Sage advice from Michael. Apologies for not remembering you also sell these parts. No slight intended.

Michael's source for steel guitar related parts is a boon and a life saver for many of us.
