RIP Carl "Lucky" Kilmer

Post by Mike Dunlap »

I received notice from Carl "Lucky"'s wife Jean Kilmer of the passing of her husband yesterday ater a long battle with ill health.
He was a long time member of the forum here and a great friend, I believe that the song "FALLEN LEAVES" Sums it up best....
"IT'S NOT WHAT YOU TAKE, BUT WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND"

"May God be with him on his eternal journey".

Thanks for posting this Mike. Prayers for Carl and his family during their loss. Lucky enjoyed the Steel Guitar Forum as I recall some of his postings.

Lucky was one of my favorite posters. Go rest high on that mountain, Carl. Condolences to friends and family.

Lucky and Jean came to my commercial building where we had a fun jam many years ago. Lucky played so smooth with a light touch on songs. We all enjoyed having them and hearing Lucky played his easy listening music he played while we were all there. Carl also shared how he had the name “Lucky” given him. What a great smooth steel player Carl was. Said to hear of Jean’s loss.

Carl was a good friend. As most of you know Carl had brain damage from a limb falling on him. He said he would never be able to play steel again. I forced him to share my set at Mount Vernon one year. He always thanked me for doing that as it broke the Ice. I'm heartbroken to hear that Carl has died. We were very close. Due to my own health issues I've not been on here much this year, RIP my friend, I love and miss you.
So sorry for you loss Jean.

I am so sorry to hear this. Like Jim Reynolds and I, Carl Kilmer and I would also hold phone conversations. He was also giving person and taught me how to use audacity. I know he said that he was in ill health, but I tried my best to brighten him up and I had him and Jim both in my prayers. My sympathies go out to Carl’s family.
