ToneX Gain Challenges
Trying to balance Joe Rogers different models. All were very low output when plugged into power amp of Nashville 112 amp. Compressor setting brought them up but had to max them out but sounded good.
Here is what Grok said:
ONEX Pedal Gain Structure
As detailed previously, the TONEX Pedal offers the following gain-related controls:
Input Trim (Global): Adjusts input gain to prevent clipping, set in Global Setup or via TONEX Editor (e.g., +8 dB for single-coils, 0 dB or lower for humbuckers). Critical for optimizing signal for Tone Models.
Gain (Per-Preset): Controls distortion/drive for each Tone Model, akin to an amp’s gain knob. Adjusted via the PARAMETER encoder or TONEX Editor.
Model Volume (Per-Preset): Balances output levels across presets to ensure consistency.
Main Volume (Global): Sets overall output (-10 dB for instrument level, +4 dB for line level).
Compressor Gain: Part of the built-in compressor, adjustable per preset to boost or tame dynamics.
EQ Controls: Bass, Middle, Treble knobs (plus advanced EQ in software) shape tone, indirectly affecting perceived gain.
Noise Gate: Adjustable threshold and depth to manage noise, especially in high-gain settings.
How do you guys balance different models and try to achieve unity gain between them?

Re: ToneX Gain Challenges
Bob;
I'll be following this topic closely. I have a Tonex at home that is plugged into the back panel line level input on my Nashville 400, which is my stay at home amplifier. Right now, I have enough gain with the global input set to about 4.7, to avoid distortion. with the master volume on full. I do use the compressor setting to boost the signal by +3 db and give a little compression on rapid notes. I haven't taken the Tonex out of the house yet. I probably won't unless I get something out of it that I'm not hearing with my current setup. That includes 8 stomp boxes feeding an MXR M-81 bass preamp that acts as a DI to the FOH, or feeds my Nashville 112 when I use it on amp'd gigs.
I am curious where you and other steel players place the Tonex in the signal chain? Would it be after the last effect device and before the DI box?
Thus-far, I am only using the #12.1 Clean amp setting that's built into the Tonex. I modded the settings to my liking and saved them. I haven't hooked it up to my computer aside from activating the license and downloading a bunch of programs I'll probably never understand or use..

Re: ToneX Gain Challenges
I have a TONEX One that I use live all the time. I have it clipped to the leg of my guitar. I can easily access four presets. Before TONEX Editor was released, I also had volume problems.
This shows my setup with four presets. I could not hold the master volume at its peak. I discovered that if I used a little bit of compression, my master(model) volume would stay peaked. The large black volume knob still functions properly without affecting the mode volume. The gain is also accessible by pressing the smaller green button.
