Hipshot Double Shot for Resonator Dimensions?

Post by Gary S. Lynch »

I inquired about having a Hipshot Double Shot installed on a Beard Blackbeard. I was advised the guitar with Hip Shot would no longer fit in the original TKL case after install.

Looking for height of the hipshot alone with fine tuners raised for G to D tuning or which ever position is highest?

Hoping an oversize case I already own may work.

Thanks!

Did you ask Beard Guitars directly? I would think that they would have the most experience with this and could tell you whether your guitar would fit. Good luck!

Brad,
Good suggestion.
I planned on calling them after the Holiday.
Also just curious about other's issue with the need for a case change.

The Hipshot Site actually has a link to the unit dimensions, but it looks like installation instructions.
No dimensions in MMs or inches that I could find.

Thanks,
Gary

I don't have specific dimensions but will confirm that a doubleshot equipped, Beard Ebody (including the BB) will NOT fit in a standard TKL 7801/8801 squareneck case.

Based on my observations while formerly employed at Beard. Paul contracted TKL for a custom case to fit the bill.

I'm sure PB will be happy to help if you call the shop on Tuesday.

Thanks Howard!
That is my plan.
I had a ‘72 OMI set up there a few years ago.
Excellent work. Really nice sound post setup and well worth the cost.

I know that the DoubleShot will add just under an inch to the height of the guitar. So this is why there have been custom cases made available over the past several years.

Since some of the cases can be quite expensive, some players have had success with good quality, roomy gig bags since they can stretch a bit, unlike a hard shell case.

Don't know if the OP is still ISO a case to fit a guitar with Hipshot Doubleshot installed. I recently posted on the Dobroholics Facebook page for this topic, and will add that comment here:

I once had an Appalachian reso with Hipshot Doubleshot installed, in an older Travelite squareneck resophonic case that came used with the Appy. The Doubleshot fit perfectly in the older Travelite case. Its neck supports were set up for squareneck reso and there was no tailpiece support block (see the first photo). I've always assumed the newer TL-60 case would work as well, but I never had one in my hands. Until now. And now my advice is: Yes it CAN fit, if you're willing to "tinker". The newer case (second photo) has very compliant but very high neck support blocks. These make a VERY tight fit around a squareneck. And, the tailpiece support block is glued on solidly. I contacted Saga for their recommendation, and I got crickets. So what I would do to this case to fit a Doubleshot-equipped squareneck resophonic guitar is: (1) cut the neck support blocks down, and (2) remove the tailpiece support block. This would require some care, skill, and a willingness to chop up a new case. The Travelite TL-60 is available on Amazon for about $165. It's a sturdy shell with some reviews not happy with the fit and finish, zipper and latch. It's an option that will work.
