Jimmy Day essentials?
I've been reading the Emmons book (wow so good!) and there are quotes in there about how Jimmy Day was one of the best at the sad songs. The quote I think was from Willie Nelson.
Anyway, I'm trying to search out essential Day. I've got a playlist started but I would some suggestions. Thanks!

Very interesting video that includes the SGF's own Ricky Davis playing a tribute to Jimmy Day.

Jimmy played on Ray Price’s version of Crazy Arms, one of the most successful and influential country records of all time.
he’s also on Ray’s excellent Bob Wills tribute album, San Antonio Rose.
Johnny Bush’s Sound Of A Heartache album is another. Buddy played on the title track but I believe the rest of the album is Jimmy.
another total classic is Jimmy Dickens’ version of Roger Miller’s When A House Is Not A Home: https://youtu.be/eetc13c8xUE
Roger did a live version which appears on the King Of The Road box set and the steel break is near identical. this apparently comes from the Country Music Time radio show in 1960 when Roger was briefly playing drums for Faron Young... that's Faron introducing him: https://youtu.be/BUb_z8LXBso

A House is not a Home is on the All Those Years Album with a foreword from Buddy Emmons.
That is a very nice collection of Jimmy Day instrumentals. It's one of the first steel records I bought back in the 70s. I still listen to it a lot.

yes Jerry, here's what Buddy had to say about that song in particular:
One of my favorites on this album is "When Your House Is Not A Home." When I first heard the turnaround on the original recording, I flipped to say the least, and would always ask Jimmy to play it for me whenever we had our steels set up. I'm glad to see he included it in this album. It contains all the augmenteds and bar slants plus enough other surprises to make you back up your needle several times.

Jimmy played the steel behind most all Ray Price recordings from 1956-1961. He did the original Heart Aces by the Numbers, and on Ray`s I Fall to Pieces, He played the whole 2:47 of the record. From the intro to the end, he was behind Ray. The Tribute to Bob Wills, San Antonio Rose is one of the best.

Check out Jimmy Day behind Ferlin and Margie Bowes w/ Steve Bess on drums, Ray Sanders singing backup w/ Price and Shorty Lavendar on fiddle. Jimmy on Sho-Bud #3 - Emmons built the cabinet in Shot's garage.
