Help with reverb pedal

Post by Casey Romeo »

Hi forum - I was hoping for a bit of help looking for a reverb upgrade on my pedal steel (Mullen RP S10) and figured I would ask here.

I currently have an EQD dispatch master as a reverb/delay, always-on pedal, but I’ve been finding that pedal a bit mechanical/metallic for my tastes. It also seems to brighten my tone a noticeable amount. I’m looking for a pedal I can push the reverb into a bit more lush territories when needed and replicate the spring of my DRRI when using my strymon iridium. For context, I’m playing 90% folk country (with bands) and 10% ambient music by myself strictly for fun.

I’ve been focused on
1.) Strymon Blue Sky - tried it recently (very quickly) and loved the tone and EQ settings. Overall, seems like the best fit for my needs

2.) Neunaber Immerse - heard great things about this pedal and love the different modes and capabilities to get more out and ambient. Not sure about how it sounds in a standard country/folk setting though. I don’t want something as metallic as the dispatch master

3.) Keeley Hydra - spring reverb sounds incredible, and other modes sound lush and flexible. Tremelo is also a sweet bonus. Cheaper than the Strymon flint too.

Happy to consider other pedals as well - probably over thinking this but really want to dial in my tone and think this is the place to ask the question! Thanks

I have the Neunaber wet. It has 2 reverb types, one is from the Immerse MK II.
That is the setting I use.
One of the best reverbs I've ever used. Just sounds good.

I have a Strymon El Capistain, delay, so not the reverb. I really liked it at first, but the more I used it, the more I noticed it seemed off. This was on my guitar rig. I bought a 20 buck delay pedal off Amazon that I actually like better. Their reverbs get great reviews, but I'm not inclined to spend the money unless I could try one for a while, from the one I did have.

Thanks for the response! I’ve read nothing but good things about the Neunaber. The only thing holding me back is the spring setting, which sounds like it isn’t quite as good as the Keeley or the Blue sky.

And you’re the first person to have a negative opinion on the El Cap. Seems that everyone loves that pedal. It’s out of my price range for the time being anyways (got a UA Orion for a tape delay)

A feature I really miss, that I used to have on my rack set-up, is adjustable pre-delay. It allows you to allow a tiny bit of reverb-less signal to be heard before the verb comes on. The notes don't seem to get as lost and run together. I'm talking milliseconds here. RP

I'm looking at a verb pedal called "True Spring" . I think I might get one to check out.

I've found my Strymon Flint does a very respectable approximation of my Deluxe Reverb. I lucked out and got one cheap used, but I'd recommend trying one out. As a bonus, it has a great trem attached to it too!
