Yup, and he sounds good. Story from Jimmy from his facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=982397263242914
... Led Zeppelin was on the go when I was asked to do another session with Joe. It was a Lennon-McCartney track called She Came in Through the Bathroom Window and I played pedal steel. I squeezed him in because I admired him so much and it was a privilege to play with one of the greats.
And I agree - Joe was one of the greats.

Awesome tidbit. Kinda explains Jimmy Page's fixation with the b-bender in the later 70s and early 80s.
Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous; praise is meet for the upright. Give praise to the Lord with the harp, chant unto Him with the ten-stringed psaltery. Sing unto Him a new song, chant well unto Him with jubilation. For the word of the Lord is true, and all His works are in faithfulness. The Lord loveth mercy and judgement; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.
- Psalm 33:1-5

That's not Page playing, and acording to the liner notes from the album and most important from the sound, it is Sneaky Pete.

The joe cocker discography lists pete and jimmy as both playing steel, on that album, but lists bathroom window separately with jimmy on steel.. I have my doubts that Jimmy was playing with that level of proficiency at that time, but hey who knows.. The fuzz solo could be Jimmy I suppose, but the backup parts in the last 3rd of the song are pete for certain.. Unmistakable.. Perhaps they both played on the song, but again, if Jimmy was that good at pedal steel, you would think we would have heard a lot more of it from him over the decades.. interesting thread in any case.... bob
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

Yeah, some of that steel does sound like Pete, and he is listed on the official contemporaneous-to-the-release credits, as is Clarence White. But it strikes me that I hear more than one steel sound, and level of playing, there. Everything I heard, to me, fits the song. But in different ways.

Of course, another possibilty is that Jimmy laid down a track but it wasn't used. And it is interesting that the official contemporaneous credits don't include Jimmy. And equally interesting that wikipedia and other references do credit Jimmy on that one song. Whether that's real or revisionist history may be a bit hard to glean.
