Re: Kemper vs. ToneX
Good question Bob,
I believe that the main concept of both are to emulate various guitar amps in actual settings. Both do a good job but the Kemper actually takes an actual sound and replicates it. The Tone X takes an amp model for example a Twin Reverb and then the user can modify it to dial in exactly what he wants to hear. The Kemper does that as well and the differance between the two is what you are starting out with.
Either would work for you IMHO. The issue is that both of these units provide the finished sound for lack of a better term. The idea is to duplicate the sound you hear on stage with an actual amp and send it to the PA or in ears etc. I believe that each has a modification for speaker cabinets and you can eliminate that if you are going to do what you intend.
Joe Rogers is a total expert on the Tone-X and gets amazing sounds out of his setup.
Kemper now has what is called a Profiler Player . It looks like a big stomp box. I bought one to go along with my rack mounted unit to avoid having to carry the bigger one to gigs. The unit works great and I had no issue transferring rigs and performances into the smaller unit.
Finally. There is a huge amount of sounds and support for the Kemper since is has been around for so long. If you are like me, I have 3 rigs that I really like and I don't spend that much time tweaking. Either would work great and as I said before Joe is a great resource for the Tone-X. Because we do use a PA and no in ear monitors. I have a Fender FR-12 which is a Full Frequency amp to give me an ideal of the sound I am putting through the mains. It's purpose for me is simply monitor and not trying to fill a room
Sorry for the wondering response. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
Regards,
Mark T.

That would absolutely work. They also make powered cabinets as well if you want to go that route.
You should not have any problems finding the right combination to fit your needs.

Re: Kemper vs. ToneX
certainly a way to go . I have the non powered head and also the player (also non powered). I use a Laney 2x12 which sounds great and I have an Atomic 10" speaker. Both are FrFr speakers that provide an accurate reproduction of the profile without adding their own coloring. What about a powered Kemper head and a Kemper cabinet?

Re: Kemper vs. ToneX
I saw videos where the ToneX capture is done with a real amp and mics and test tones etc, so I'm bit confused?mtulbert wrote: 15 May 2025 4:16 am

Bob
You could be right. It has been a while since I messed with a Tone X.
I apologize if I gave you the wrong information.
