Looking to upgrade my volume pedal
I've been using a Goodrich pot pedal for twenty years and I'm looking to finally upgrade. Still balking at the price of a new Hilton, not to mention the telonics. Anyone holding a used one of either? Or have any other recs? Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. It's been awhile since I've been on here
TIA!
TIA!

Re: Looking to upgrade my volume pedal
I don't know about Telonics Olie, but there are quite a few Hilton pedals that come up for sale from time to time at pretty reasonable prices. I bought a couple for under $200 not too long ago. [They offer std. and low profile models and be aware there is also a guitar model which may or may not fit the bill for steel.]
I'm pretty happy with the sound and action of the ones I have.
Nothing wrong with asking in the electronics section but you might get more traffic by posting in the Wanted to Buy section. Good Luck!

Re: Looking to upgrade my volume pedal
I've never tried the Telonics but the Hilton pedal sounds great and is comfortable to use. I've actually gone back to a Goodrich 120 for home and a Moyo for live after using the Hilton for 15 years.Olie Eshleman wrote: 1 May 2025 5:41 pm I've been using a Goodrich pot pedal for twenty years and I'm looking to finally upgrade. They are all different, but I wouldn't exactly describe one of these pro pedals as an upgrade from the others unless you know specifically what performance aspect you're looking to change...

Re: Looking to upgrade my volume pedal
The term "upgrade" only seems applicable if you're not satisfied with the tone and performance of your pot pedal. Lots of pros still use them. Hilton and Telonics are both great. Goodrich makes the Omni, which gives you a choice of active (like Hilton/Telonics) or passive (pot pedal). I have a Goodrich Omni and Hilton. I always seem to use the Hilton. I don't have a Telonics because....I just don't have a Telonics. One of the benefits of the classic Goodrich style pot pedal is that you don't have to plug it into an electrical receptacle. You have to plug in the active pedals. Active pedals don't have pots or strings that eventually need to be replaced. Stage One makes a pot pedal that uses a rack and pinion type system, eliminating the need for a string or wall plug. It also has a smaller footprint than the others, and sounds great if you like traditional pot pedal tone.

The Goodrich Omni is a great combination of passive and active modes. In passive mode, you have a pot pedal that a lot of players still use. In active mode the signal passes through the circuitry that can be powered by either the supplied wall wart or a 9 volt battery. I’ve never been a fan of having to deal with plugging a pedal in, and the 9 volt battery has a 500 hour life expectancy. Best of both worlds.

Re: Looking to upgrade my volume pedal
I tried them all and settled on the Lehle - https://www.lehle.com/lehle-mono-volume-90
The thing I liked is that you can power it from any run of the mill 9v pedal power supply. With some other brands you are dead in the water if your power supply stops working. You can find a 9v supply at pretty much any music store.
I power mine from my pedalboard power supply, but carry an extra one spot just in case.

I'll second Joe's choice: LEHLE MONO VOLUME 90
I have had mine for a couple years and really like it.

Re: Looking to upgrade my volume pedal
The newest version of the Telonics FP-100 can be powered with any power supply (9-24v). I just got one last week and assumed there would be some level of disappointment given the price, but it’s well worth it in my opinion. I have a Goodrich L-120 as well and use it with a Sarno Freeloader. I love that combo but needed something more reliable for recording. Very happy with it!
