Nashville 112 grill removal

Post by Lonnie Wells »

Got a new speaker for my 112 amp and trying to figure out how to take off the grill cover. I need to replace the speaker mounting screws with some longer ones. Anyone here know how to remove the cover? Maybe velcro attached?

thanks

Lonnie-
Grillcloth is usually mounted with staples so it's easy (if labor-intensive) to take off and remount if you need to. The bigger issue is getting the baffleboard out of the amp. IIRC the old Peaveys with aluminum strips had the grillcloth on a separate frame Velcro'd to the baffle. My '80-ish Session 500 has that setup, but I'm not sure whether 112s were built that way. I have a 112 from about 2010, and its baffle is mounted with cleats and screws like an old Fender and would come out without too much difficulty. Maybe you could post a pic of the back of your 112 and we can have a look. ;-)

Lonnie,

There is a better way. Go to Home Depot and get enough double nut couplers that fit the present screws on the 112. about 1.25 or 1.5 inches long. They were about $2 each.

I turned the down one end until they pass through the speaker holes, but left enough to act as a nut to hold the speaker in place. Works great with the present speaker mounting bolts. Leaves the 112 as factory built.

What speaker are you installing that would require longer screws? Just curious… I put the PF350 in mine with no problem.

Gordy,
I'm installing a Telonix TSNEO-12-4, I had this speaker in a previous 112 amp but this 112 I purchased recently has shorter mounting screws. Marvin is going to machine some nut adaptors that should work for this.
