I think I hear him doing some Travis alternating bass under his melody here n there. Is there also any of that “thumb back stroke” in it too?

Bobby's a legend and doesn't quite get the praise he deserves, I suppose he wasn't on nearly as many recordings as some of the other big names.
he certainly excelled at the thumb style!

When I'm really impressed with the steel playing, I look at the credits and it's Bobby Garrett.
