Most old-timers will remember this song from the early '60s. It was a big hit for Dave Dudley in 1963, and it opened the door for a lot of popular, truck-driver songs for almost the next decade. But 2 years before Dudley's release, this version (with lots of pedal steel) came out :

Steel work sounds a
lot like early Pete Drake, but I suppose it could have been someone else copying his style.

Paul Franklin agrees with you, it was Pete Drake.

One of the comments posted: "Change the playback speed on here to 1.25 and you’ve got a fast hillbilly bopper!"
That's the truth!
Thanks for posting the video, Donny.

I am of the opinion that Taj Mahal's version trumps 'em all. Featuring the incomparable Jesse Ed Davis.

This is my favorite version, with Al Perkins tearing it up on his Fender PSG...

I guess I'm really old school, but for me Dave Dudley defined Six Days On The Road with that unique beat and his deep, rich voice.

Agree 100%. Almost as good as it gets; a bona fide classic.

Sorry guys, that song just came up when i was browsing YT. Thanks for the link to the 15 year old thread, though. I either never noticed it, or forgot that version had been brought up before.
