A friend of mine, Johnny Green, did the same thing with a dumpster find. It sounds great and he plays it all the time. I prefer the sound to the metal body guitars.
Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother.

It reminds me that the very first steel guitars were similar conversion done in the 1800's in Hawai'i.

The wider fingerboard should be a bonus!
