Can you convert an E9th pedal steel to C6th pedal-CLOSE
I am curious if this can be done. I have an ad in WTB where I am asking for this type of steel. I just am too old and weak to carry around a D10 any more but I miss playing the C6th neck. I had a Justice S10 built as a C6th and foolishly sold it. Perhaps I should go that route. I am sure that some of the beginner E9th steels cant be changed as they are fixed. Anyway, I just want the basic C6th with 5 pedals and just need 1 knee lever.
I really am not in the market to spend 4k for single neck, want something cheaper. I understand the old Fender 800s are easily changed, but even those are getting expensive.
So I guess if this can be done, I am looking for someone who has several steels and one they dont use that much they could sell to me.
I have a Zum Encore that satisfies all my E9th desires but engaging the Es lowered just doesnt do enough for my C6th desires.
Sorry for the long post.
Thanks for any advice or suggestions. Send me a pm if youd like, I prefer that.

Why not buy a used S10 from any well made brand?.. Carter, MSA,BMI , many others are all durable, good pro quality, and still fairly reasonable.. Then set it up as you like for C6.. Only problem you might have is that most s10's have more levers than pedals, and C6 usually are more pedals than levers.. Should not be that big a deal, as you can probably swap a lever setup easily for a pedal setup right here on the forum, and some pedals are still relatively easy to find.. years ago I bought a Carter S10 that had a C6 setup on it when I bought it used, and had to do the exact opposite,, Change from C6 to E9.. If you ask in the WTB section here on this forum, you might even find good C6 S10 ready to go.. bob
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!
no gear list for me.. you don't have the time......

Thanks Bob, I changed my WTB post to include that idea as well. Hopefully I will be able to find something to work for me.

Herb
That is a great guitar I know but way out of my price range.
Hope you are doing well.
I think I am going the route of a Justice S10 set up C6th. I had one that I sold for some reason...probably wanted to buy a banjo !

Here are my thoughts on this assuming you have a standard steel with 3 pedals and 4 or 5 knees:
Drop the standard pedal 4
Pedal 5 - put it on a knee lever. I play D10, but I have pedal 5 on LKR (C6 knee lever cluster). Lane Grey has it on the right knee, RKL IIRC. Either options allows for easy double-pedaling with 5 and any other pedal without having to double-foot it - which is a good idea IMO.
You can then do whatever knee levers you want. My left knee C6 cluster is 3 levers, so I have all the same changes as the classic Buddy Emmons 8x7 coped as found here on the forum info section - just slightly rearranged for position. So that would be a 3x5 steel reworked for C6. If only 4 levers, I would drop the lever Buddy had on LKL - 4th string A to Ab. I don't use that very much.
That's what I would do. Of course, if you like pedal 4, and can get a used steel with 4 pedals, then add it back.

Might as well close this posting...I am having Ron at Justice steels build me another C6th single neck.
Right or wrong !
