ShoBud Crossover

Post by Steve Berthel »

I am working on a ShoBud Crossover serial # 7664. I am hoping someone can tell the production date for this guitar. Also, I cannot get the 1st. string raise to G#, it stays at G. I turn the cap screw at the endplate and nothing happens either direction. Every other change on the guitar on both necks work, including the 6th string lower to F#. Both of these changes are on the RKL. Does anyone have some advice?

I'd guess your guitar is probably early 1970. My 'Bud is #7962 and is late 1970. They were building around 100 per month, I think.

Check to see if the barrel is in the right place and tight on the pull rod. There's a tiny set screw on the barrel. There should be a small amount of play, like an 1/8 to 1/16th inch between the end of the barrel and the edge of the basket that moves to pull the rod. If there's too much play it wont move it, not enough play and it will not tune correctly. If the set screw isn't tight, the barrel will move and not pull the changer. Don't strip the set screw.

Another thing could be the hook that attaches the pedal to the crossover mechanism. If that is unhooked it won't pull.
