D-10 Shipping costs

I'm sure this has been discussed in the past, but I'm curious what the average shipping costs are nowadays for shipping a SD or D-10.

Do most sellers put the case in a cardboard box and ship? Is there any benefit to having UPS, FexEx or others boxing it for you? Is it OK to ship the steel just in the case? Is Insurance worth it?

Assuming most D-10s are in the 70# range, what are the average costs to ship ground from East to West, etc.?

I’ve ship to west coast and Canada with no issues with FedEx

Generally 150 to 200 give or take

About 250 or so if you get FedEx to custom make a box shipped to Nashville last I recall (maybe a smudge cheaper)

YES, get the INSURANCE!!! It’s worth the peace of mind, had a pro 2 break on me, the insurance paid the replacement parts for my customer/friend Gary (pot metal)

I just successfully shipped a Zum D10 from NY to AZ. Cost me $640 to ship "FedEx Express" which puts it on a plane rather than a truck. The only insurance available was for $1000 max value so I paid for the express option to limit my risk. I packed the guitar in its case with tiny bubble wrap stuffed everywhere to keep it snug, then put the case in a box with about 2" space all around and packed that space tight with foam and big bubble wrap. Wrapped it every which way with strapping tape and took it to FedEx myself. It was still in tune when it was unpacked in AZ, YMMV but that's the very best I know how to do.

I use Pirateship.com. Nice savings most of the time.

Insurance when shipping

Forum members mention "insurance" when shipping.
When I ask about "insurance" at FedEx, they tell me we don't "INSURE" an instrument; you'd need to deal with a musical instrument evaluator to do that, but you can place a "DECLARED VALUE" on the item you're shipping. The higher the "declared value", the higher the cost of shipping.
I just want to understand clearly as forum members talk about "insurance", do you mean the "declared value"?
