Jerry Garcia records steel on Candyman
very cool footage of Jerry taking an early pass at his steel part on Candyman with Phil Lesh and Robert Hunter cheering him on, 1970.

Concerning his steel work,I have always liked his "studio cuts" better than what I have seen and heard live.. He is for lack of a better term "pitchy" in any of these live steel playing videos I have seen and heard ... I love his studio work with the Dead,NRPS, Steve Stills, Brewer and Shipley etc,,always have always will... bobJack Stanton wrote:I love the finished solo on the record, and as cool as it was to watch- it was painful...

I have always loved his ingenuity playing live with the 6 string guitar and never thought much of his studio work on that instrument (pretty much the opposite of his pedal steel playing).
