New player, new forum member, new instrument advice

First off Im excited to be learning a new instrument. I have always been interested in pedal steel but the entry level prices were pretty high to just try it out. Lucky for me i was at a customer location and office manager had this in her office for sale. She said it was her father-in-laws and was sure it was worth around 1000$ but would sell it for 600$ for quick sale, especially if buyer would really love it well. Im sure i got a good deal but i can't find anything about this model. I'd greatly appreciate any info you Pros might have for me on my new Guitar. Is there a standard Pedal and lever setup? E9 neck seems to be fine with abc pedals and rkl drops the E's not the left knee. Is that Normal? I'm not planning on selling this but i am curious about the value.

also... where can i get the nylon nuts for tuning the pedals? I'm missing one.

You done good. I acquired one of these about 6 mos. ago. I like it a lot. I've been playing pedal steel for over 40 yrs. and this is one of my favorites out of more than a dozen.

Standard set up on these was both Es on the left knee, but nothing is written in stone since they are pretty well changeable. Several players lower the Es on the right knee. It all depends on how the rest of the guitar is set up, bu you can set it up to suit yourself.

Can't see the tuning window but stock tuning nuts are really short with a long metal spacer on this guitar. You can use a standard one for a 5-40 thread rod and just cut it off.

Jerry, thank you so much for the information. I’m happy to know that I got a good deal and I’m excited to even know what model I have. As far as the nylon tuning nuts, go I do only need one, but I don’t mind ordering them if I need to. Might order a few just to have someone hand just in case. My particular guitar has. Brass tubes Between the nut that are being used as a spacer of some sort, those have a certain name for me to search the Internet for them?

Yes, these are the long spacer tubes app. 1 1/4 in. long. The actual nylon tuning nut is about 5/16 long more or less. I haven't found an exact source for those long spacers.

Never found any nylons that short either, so just cut it off if you want or leave it sticking out. Doesn't hurt anything.

Size to order is for a 5-40 tread tuning rod. They come without threads which are cut when you thread it on the pull rod. Some sources for tuning nuts: www.psgparts.com, show pro steel guitar company, maybe the forum store. it's good to have a few extra on hand, yes.

The mechanics on these guitars, same as Super Pro, have one issue that I know of. Some of the parts are made of die cast material. Just so you know, it is not unusual for some of the parts to fracture sometimes, however new machined alum parts are available from a couple sources, so don't panic if it happens to you.

Also, nothing has broken on my guitar in the 6 months I'm playing it and many players report years of service with no failures. Just FYI.

Ha Jerry, If you will PM or E mail me the exact length, Outside diameter and Hole size I will make him a spacer.
Nylon tuner 5/16 length, What size is the thread size?
Make him 4 or 5 tuning nuts to get the guitar going.

Here are my findings. Might as well post them here for anybody else that might be interested.

I was wrong about the nylon tuning nuts. They are 3/8 in. long. The pull rod threads are sized for a #5 nylon. Std. size.

The barrel is an odd size. My guess is a special size dia. to fit over the pull rods while not interfering with others, space wise.

Measures 1 1/4 in. long. It is app. 11/64 o.d. just under 3/16 or 5mm.

The hole size fits over a #6 machine screw so app. 1/8 i.d.

My guitar is missing many of the long barrel spacers and 3/8 nuts. It would be nice to find a source for those barrels so I could put my guitar back to stock.

Congratulations, Ryan! You got a great guitar at a terrific price.
I had one of those for years and it had the most wonderful tone of any steel I’ve owned. I found that I couldn’t make it sustain as much as my other guitars, but perhaps that was just me.
I also busted a couple of knee levers, as their brackets seem to be made of pot metal. Easily upgraded, though, so don’t panic.

Gosh, I'm not sure Bobby. The guitar is put away at the moment. It's a D10. Many of the C6 parts are there, but the E9 neck where someone has made a lot of changes is missing quite a few. I would guess at least a dozen, but when I get to the guitar's location, I will see.

Take care of Ry first...my guitar is playable as is, just like to put it back to stock.
