jerry douglas uses a hipshot tailpiece

to change tunings quickly.
but at $840 it ain't cheap.
could this be a poor man's alternative?

anyone tried this on their dobro?

I use these on std. guitar, but for Dobro, the .054 is the largest string they will accomodate for a low E string. Most dobro strings low G is a .056.
I've never tried it on the low string on the dobro, but I use it on the 2nd string occasionally for some tune or other.
Of course you'd need one for every string you'd like to re-tune.
I like them fine once they're installed, but they can be a PITA putting on the wound strings.

I used PitchKey on several acoustic & electric guitars, mostly for drop-D. That worked okay.
Tried multiple units to go from standard to open D / Sevastopol tuning. That required some retuning every time they were used. Too much overall tension change between the tunings?
On a resonator guitar, with cone that rises or falls slightly with tuning & string tension change, I would expect multiple PitchKeys to be awful.

GFI Expo S-10PE, Sho-Bud 6139, Fender 2x8 Stringmaster, Supro consoles, Dobro. And more.
