Emmons PP E - Eb knee lever adjustment needed.

Post by Robert Crenwelge »

Last week I broke the compression spring on my PP 8th string lower. I replaced the spring but can’t get the lower in tune. It’s 12cents sharp. I’ve tried different spring lengths. I’m at a loss! Any suggestions? I’d really love to learn how to work on my PP’s.

FYI - When lowering the E’s the 4th string comes in tune. With C pedal, F lever raise, E-Eb lower and open. The 8th string F lever raise is in tune as well as open.

Hey, Robert. My wife and I just returned from our annual July 4th vacation in F'burg. Lots of food, lots of Shiner, ands lots of fun...as usual.

I hope you get your Emmons back in proper working order. Don't forget, Rick Price is over in Utopia.

Hard to say without seeing it, but perhaps your new spring doesn’t compress the same as the old one? Maybe moving the collar closer to the bellcrank will provide the extra travel you need? Or adjusting the stop on lever travel?

When you push the finger back with your finger does the note make it in tune?

Your lower rod isn’t pushing the finger far enough. Using a shorter spring will result in more finger movement. Moving the shaft lock collar closer to the bell crank will also have a similar effect. I use barely any spring for this change and love the feel that gets me

Have you manually operated the changer and the push rod has accidentally dropped out?
