I'm reminded by my good friend Jerry van Hoose that today is the anniversary of the passing of Jeff Newman. Miss him and Fran a lot.

He left us way to early. He did a lot for Steel Guitar and Steel Guitarists. RIP Jeff Newman

Sad anniversary. I remember the shock and grief I felt hearing that news. I'd chatted with him just days before at that year's TSGA show.

Miss him.He was part of the pioneering players and teachers IMHO.Loved his confident style.

He's the guy who convinced me to switch from a D10 to a universal. The steel guitar world lost one it's most influential and irreplicable figures that day. I'm proud to have known him.

The way he influenced steel players was a lot bigger than just the music: he brought forth friendships from both players and manufacturers that opened up the previously empty world of steel guitar relationships. He knew how to irritate all the right people. There was a "big" ruckus when he recorded Johnny B Goode. I loved the bass part in the song and he said "thank you I played that"..... He brings me the Lonesomes every year and I still hate those damned ultralights To sell an airplane you put together in your back yard is the stupidest thing I ever heard. I miss you still old friend forever....

Yes Sir; that IS the best way. And when I got mine; and I got used to it. I've said this: IF the first PSG's were Universal; 90% of the SG players would go that way; Yesterday! :whoa: . But humans don't like changes, most of the time. And that's the reason they say, NO! :x Oh Well...

And Jeff, had a horrible death. By playing with his plane; and something caused it to dive; straight to the earth. AS Jeff's wife and their daughter were watching it! How horrible :x . When it happened; my late friend Tommy Dodd, called me and said, "Are you sitting down?" And I said, "Yes". Then He told me what just happened, May Jesus mercy! Wow.
