Nice story about Nate's work. His new ambient music album ties in with the photos he's taken of decommissioned missile silo sites. Nate's photos series "One and a Half Acres: Images from America’s Decommissioned Minuteman Missile Silos" was recognized in 2021 when he accepted the Global Peace Photo Award in Vienna Austria.

We're all proud of him in the Kansas City music community.
All round good guy who also plays kick-ass honky-tonk and swing when not sitting in an abandoned missile silo.

I'll give it a listen later, but I have to ask "Why a missle silo?"

It makes for better copy than something done in your den. ;-)

I heard this on the radio last week. Clever idea, creates thought and awareness. NPR described the instrument as complicated like nuclear technology, and pointed out both developed during the same decades. I found it flattering to both Nate and the instrument.

This is brilliant on so many levels! I can't think of a better way to experience real reverb.

Much thanks y'all. Special to me because I spent a lot of time in my formative years learning a lot about pedal steel right here on the Forum.

This particular effort is definitely "experimental" (or ambient, New Age, etherial whatever you wanna call it). But I proudly balance my time with actual country and honky tonk bands too.

Interesting project. I enjoyed your playing. It's always a positive push when a player takes the pedal steel guitar in a different direction and I support your efforts.

I guess I'm thinking Bruce Kaphan et al. This must be the sole example of music recorded in a missle silo!

Thank you, Jerry. Yeah there are a more than a few pedal steelers releasing amazing pedal steel-only work these days. Really interesting time for our instrument.

Great to hear your music, Nate.
I snagged a copy of the vinyl - excellent package.
You're right, it's a great time for our instrument, especially when pushing boundaries
