Quilter 202 impedance

Post by Dave Meis »

The book talks about a 4 ohm, an 8 ohm, 2-8 ohms, and a 16 ohm, but no mention of 2 -4 ohm cabs.
Can I safely run 2 1501s with it?
Thanks, d

One answer:

"Thanks for the reply. Quilter actually told me it would be fine to run the amp this way. "

Hi Dave,
I have a 4 ohm speaker and a 8 ohm speaker and had a similar question about running both at same time so I contacted Quilter. Pat responded with this:

"The power output is optimized for 4 and 8 ohms but the amp’s impedance is “forgiving” and your 2.6 ohm load will play OK. The amp will set itself for 4 ohms when you use both jacks. It won’t matter which speaker plugs into which jack when using both, but if you use only the 4 ohm speaker it should go in the upper, 4-ohm jack, and likewise, a solo 8-ohm speaker should use the 8-ohm jack."

I'm assuming both your speakers are 4 ohm each so you may get a different reply, but I think If you contact Quilter he will be happy to respond with advise. He got back to me within a couple of days.

About A month ago I was doing a gig with full sound system and gig went well. When I was packing up, I notice that my TT-15 was plug into 8 oms since then some time I feel that I have lost some Mids and other time it seems fine. Is there a chance I damage the speaker. I am sure my gain was almost full and master 6-7 for the 3-hour gig.

I run both a Quilter TT12 (actually switched to a PF 350) 8 ohm Cabinet and a TT15 4 ohm Cabinet ... whatever Quilter did internally to run both speakers at the same times, seems to work perfectly.

Hey Dale, I know the owner manual and people have commented that when you plug into both jacks it somehow corrects itself and no harm if I am reading it right

What I did or a sound tec is plug my TT-15 4 om speaker into the 8 om Jack for the evening nothing was plug into the 4 om jack

Among the many things I know little to nothing about ohm’s is but one more… but my possibly wrong understanding was that the problem arises from running and 8 ohm speaker at 4, but just less omph running 4 ohm speaker at 8. But shockingly I could be wrong ;-)

This is from the Quilter manual:
"The amp is protected against no-load and abnormal loads;
thermal protection may reduce power somewhat after prolonged, severe overloads."
Seems like if anything went wrong, it would have been noticeable at the gig??
