Non-pedal workshop in Port Townsend (May 15-19)
Fellow non-pedalers,
Registration is open for this year's Red Hot Strings workshop at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA (May 15-19, 2024).
The program, founded by guitarist and songwriter Matt Munisteri (https://mattmunisteri.com/), is the only workshop I know dedicated to the string traditions of Hot Jazz, 1930’s Swing, ragtime, Hawaiian and Western Swing, and even jug band music of the American South.
Five days and four nights of thoughtful (and accessible) music instruction, faculty-led ensembles, informal jam sessions, and participant and faculty concerts in one of the most idyllic spots in the country. It’s an extremely welcoming community and open to musicians of all skill-levels--from full-time professional players to folks just getting started on their instrument.
Participants are free to hop around and take classes on steel guitar, standard guitar, banjo, mandolin, bass, and violin with an amazing faculty. Registration and course information can all be found here: https://centrum.org/program/red-hot-strings/
Hope you can sign up and please help spread the word. This will be the sixth year of Red Hot Strings and it’s exciting to see this resurgent community come together and grow!
