Chuck Abend

Post by Colm Chomicky »

I received a phone call this morning from David Abend that his father Chuck Abend passed away this morning Jan 3 2023 at the age of 93. Chuck played steel with numerous bands in the Kansas City area and enjoyed maintaining and enthusiastically rebuilding steel guitars. Chuck will be missed by all. RIP Chuck.

I loved hanging with Chuck and listening to his stories, picking up playing tips and watching him rebuilding his latest guitar. I’ll miss him.

Sad news. I've known Chuck since the 80"s. He's taken my place and I've taken his place in bands.

I thought he had recovered from the medical episode he had this past summer.

Hi Jack, Chuck did recover from last summer and was even working on restoring a new steel when I visited him this fall. Apparently this resulted from another problem. They sent him back to the hospital over the weekend. I was going to visit him today when I heard the news.

His son David called me today too and we chatted. So many jam sessions he was a staple at. I have a video of him demoing his talk box at one of those:

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this news. Chuck and I had a lot of interactions, both at shows and online, often concerning the IVL Pitchrider in which he had a great interest. My condolences to his family and loved ones. He will be missed from our community.

Sad news, indeed. Chuck and I did some trading a few years back and I enjoyed our interaction.

My sympathy goes to all his family and friends.

Oh, that's sad. We ecxchanged emails a couple of years ago because we share the same name, but weren't able to establish a connection. What a nice guy. Condolences to his family.

I'm sorry to hear this sad news about Chuck Abend. I always enjoyed his posts and I thought it was cool that he enjoyed fixing up pedal steel guitars and selling them. They all looked like nice pedal steels and I noticed that most of them were loaded up with knee levers. My condolences go out to all of his family and friends.
