Whatwe need here now are some photos or clicks out to photos, especially photos of restorations, innovations, knee lever additions, undercarriage alterations etc. The Stringmaster and Dual/Triple Custom players had a couple of good strings going recently.

OK, I'll start...

Been a few minor changes since these were taken - but you get the idea!

Basil's is more high tech than mine!

But mine DOES play smooth as silk. changing the lowering springs and assing a helper on my #7 raise makes it play like a modern steel. It's *really* quick and light feeling.

Should be digging into the knee lever project on the 1000 this weekend. Still looking for the right lower springs for that one.

Oddball on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTA GE-SUNBURST-DOUBLE-NECK-PEDAL-STEEL-GUITAR-FENDER_W0QQitemZ170000786083QQcategoryZ33039QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It looks right...at first. but the logo in the case is an amp logo, the tuner pans have no Fender logo, the pickups are wrong...

Oh - and it has old-style changer plates, sorta...but with newer-style pickups, except "toothless".

And the sunburst looks goofy to me.

What IS it?
[This message was edited by Jim Sliff on 23 June 2006 at 09:20 PM.]

Jim, that guitar on ebay looks like the one I took the parts off of and sold to you, except it was a D-10.

Dave - I was thinking it might be something like that.

A Fender...but not quite a Fender.

I wonder who made them?

Perhaps Carvin made it Jim.

I ve been enjoying my fender 2000 alot. Nice tone and stays in tune well. Still miss having levers but getting better at it.
I think it would be great to have a resource for nothing but Fender PSG's.
Be cool if there were some nice parts available too.

Mark ) haven't found a single indication that arvin made ones with anything but "chopped triangle) pedals...and it doesn't look like any cataloged Carvin.

Other problems: No Fender logo on pedal bar, the sunburst pattern is wrong and VERY abrupt. the changer plate shape is wrong and so are the screw holes.

I sent the seller a note asking about the pedals - Is a Fender logo on them, and do they have the spring-plate under the rod hole? If not, it's definitely a mystery guitar and probably the same thing Dave had that I have parts from. It'd be really interesting to find out who made it - because there has to be more of them since the tooling would not have been cheap.

Hope nobody here ends up paying a grand or so or for an unknow copy. It's already at $300+ - and I wouldn't touch it even at that price without seeing the underside.

Just received pics from the seller - he's interested in finding out as well the turnbuckles, pulleys and tubes at the loop-end of the cables are all from another maker as well, and match some of the odd stuff I've gotten. There are two stock-looking output jacks - one for each neck? That's wrong as well.

The changers have no Fender logo on the plate, roller bridges a little different from the add-on Fenders, no hog rings, and are cut out for newer-type pickups - and the picks are definitely wrong.

So - no logos on anything, wrong parts, wrong finish alignment - not a Fender, but what is it?

Not Carvin - dosn't match anything.

Wright Custom? Doesn't match anything, but some parts look close.

Anyone? Bueller?

Still haven't found anything remotely like this one. he price hasn' moved much - sure hope someone doesn't jump in at the end and pay WAY too much for a knockoff.

Also noticed the nasty screws on the fretboard - yikes.

I still have my 2000 and play it all the time. It has had a lot of work done on it among other things a rebuilt chasis from a previous owner, but I'll put it up against any guitar out there for it's tone. It stays in tune and is so versatile. I bought a Sierra Crown U12 so I took my Fender down to Scotty's and Don Curtis fixed her up for me so I could sell it. But when I got it back and played it again, I decided to keep it. I'd love to go to a Fender steel convention.

Just a "bump" - and a pic of the bridge roller "substitute" - works REALLY well.
