A Mighty Fine Mike Cass Rebuild

Post by Charlie Wallace »

Just got my single ten bolt-on Emmons back from Mike Cass and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I had been thinking about having work done on the guitar for some time and when an unexpected break came up in my music schedule, I decided to send it out. Mike added two additional knee levers, a left vertical and a extra LKL right in front of the existing LKL. He was great about suggesting where to place the new levels as well as recommending moving the two existing right knee levers over to where they would be more comfortable to use. The guitar was dismantled and rebuilt and the changer was taken apart and cleaned. Mike was fun to work with, communicating with me, working within the budget and finishing the work on time. It was a very pleasant experience.

Charlie, what's the serial # on your

Mike's done some push/pull work for me in the
past & they don't come much better. Top notch
workmanship and he treats each steel like it's
his own.

I feel guilty....I still have to take and post pictures of the D-10 Bolt-on restoration Mike did for me last year....it's a work of art! And I agree, the process with Mike is like you're just shootin' the breeze out on the front porch, a pleasant experience.

Mike set up a guitar for me last year when I was in town for just 20hours and at real short notice, just came on over and did the job right and it plays sweet. A real pro. I agree with what Pat said

"the process with Mike is like you're just shootin' the breeze out on the front porch, a pleasant experience."

Andrew, the LKV drops the 5th string B to a Bb. Originally I had this on the RKR but Mike moved it to the LKV. David, the 4th pedal is the Franklin change, drops the 5th B to a A, the 6th G# to a F# and the 10th B to a A.
This is the same axe I played on the the youtube Slidewinders video. Thanks for all the kind words!

Charlie,
I have one just like yours, a '66 Emmons S-10 bolt-on. These are great little guitars and Mike has also worked on mine before.

I love the steel guitar in the video and I recognized the song, "Why've you been Gone So Long" because my favorite band Ricochet recorded it for their album "What You Leave Behind". I love the Emmons steel in that video. I love Emmons guitars that were built in the sixties, whether they're singlenecks or doublenecks. Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10
