Jamboree in TX 2021?

Post by Jon Voth »

As a new player, before the elephant in the room started hanging around, I planned on going as a chance to see a lot of talent, and test play guitars to see which one I might prefer, etc. Plus an excuse to visit some family in TX.

I see the announcement on the site.

For folks in the know, do you think this will happen? Are the organizers going ahead wide open throttle with the planning? What is the general vibe on this conference happening?

A silly question, sure-but I'm looking for some encouragement!

I talked with Albert Talley a couple weeks ago about the show. He plans on having the show but was wanting to wait until the end of the year to see where we are on COVID. Sadly, this junk is not going away anytime soon. I personally hope the show goes on but there are many factors involved such as the hotel and people coming in from overseas and all over the USA. Cross your fingers and hope for some good news.

Jamboree restrictions

Post by David Hodan »

The TSGA has every intention to hold the 2021 Jamboree, March 11-14. We will need to abide by any State of Texas and Dallas County restrictions in place. Right now, performance halls are permitted to open at 50% capacity which would limit attendance to about 600 - 650. That's not to say how the situation at that time might affect Artist, Vendor, and Staff participation. Or that the show would be held under those restrictions.

TSGA has some requirements and guarantees regarding the Hotel and room bookings. Normal 48 hour hotel rules still apply for canceling. I don't think it would hurt one bit to go ahead and book your room.

I'd love to be optimistic about March, but I cannot. This virus isn't going away until we have an effective vaccine and the experts say it will be, at least, mid-2021. Then we still have to get a hesitant population to take the vaccine. I am certainly not an expert, but I hear what they are saying.
You can be optimistic and make your hotel reservation and hope for the best. I plan on doing just that.

I was at this years [2020] show. THE BEST STEEL SHOW I HAVE EVERY BEEN TO.

I WILL BE IN DALLAS FOR 2021.

All this everyone is going to die it RIGHT. WE ALL WILL DIE - IT IS NOT HOW YOU DIE -- IT IS HOW YOU LIVE.

I am 67 years old. Lots of people my age have not seen their grand-children in months. I had my 2 grandsons at my home this weekend ---- AND WILL HAVE THEM HERE AGAIN IN 2 WEEKS.

Don whatever you think is best for you - BE I AM GOING TO LIVE MY LIFE, whatever time I have left.

Just remember, Rex, we wear a mask to protect other people, not you, We now have more deaths from this virus than we had with the Viet Nam war and that is just in 6 months, not 6 years like the war.

Please, let's not let this topic degenerate into politics. It's a science and medical issue.

I recently moved to the DFW area only about 15 minutes away. So of course i won’t need a room but I’m planning on going if they do indeed have it whether it’s fabulous or not.

A different 2021 show has been cancelled and the cancellation announced to the sponsoring association's membership, although nothing's been posted here. I feel that's the prerogative of the officers and principals of the organization to do so (and above my pay grade).

My biggest regret of 2020 was having a room reserved for the Dallas show, airplane booked and sadly cancelling a week before due to Covid scare. Damn. I wanted to see Lloyd and Sarah so bad! Plus friends and great musicians I only get to see once a year.
I’m sure hoping to get another chance in 2021.

Hopefully the new vaccines will end this horrible man made virus and allow life as we know it to exist once again.
We must also be reminded and actively taking the appropriate proper steps to make sure mankind never crosses this deadly line again whatsoever. Hopefully things will open back up soon.

Curious about this myself, considering all the upticks, even with a vaccine and the possibility of limiting attendance... you fly in and they tell you they're already at capacity... Could be overthinking this

I know the times dictate that things are more uncertain than Normal, but "Going to Attempt the Show" for me is a touch weak to Spend Airfare for 2 on :? :(

I meant they are doing the show. No one knows what will happen between now and the show, but it is a go. Maybe it is possible to get refundable tickets? I haven't flown for a long time, but I would think with Covid they would have refundable tickets??

That would be great Mike... It seems like it's a bit of a hassle to unclench the airlines fist from your dollars LOL

More likely the airline would give you a voucher for a future flight with a time limit.

I usually go to the Southwest Steel Guitar Association show in Mesa, AZ -- but they've cancelled for next year. So I am packing my cowboy hat and going to Dallas! If they cancel, I will just use the airfare somewhere else, they usually give you a year to use it. Hope to see you all out there!

As new year comes, thankful for insights from folks regarding this event. Was totally looking forward to it before the virus happened. Want to test play makes and models, and hear lots of talented musicians live-things I've never done yet.

Please keep us posted on positive news for this and Happy New Year to all.
