Billie Eilish
I couldn't help but notice that there was no mention here about the teenager whose music won seven Grammys this year. Which is not surprising given the super modern production and hip hop influence...
I'd just like to point out that underneath all of that are really well crafted songs with lots of intricate harmonies - and if you aren't allergic to modern pop production, there's tons of cool stuff going on there too. Her and her brother recorded the whole thing in a bedroom in their parents house over the course of 3 years (they are 18 and 22 now).
Here are a couple acoustic duo performances by them, without all the production.

Thanks Brett. I never knew anything about her until I saw the pictures of her with all the Grammys in her arms. I have to say that sounded pretty cool...I’ll have to check the rest of it out. I never pay attention to the Grammys. As I always like to say, the last time I was gonna watch the Grammys was 1980, but instead I decided to listen to Doc at the Radar Station by Captain Beefheart. Then I listened to some Ray Price. I never looked back.

Re: Billie Eilish
Simple answer is she doesn't use a steel guitar and this is the S.G.F.Brett Lanier wrote:I couldn't help but notice that there was no mention here about the teenager whose music won seven Grammys this year. Which is not surprising given the super modern production and hip hop influence...

She just wrote and recorded the theme song for the new James Bond movie “No Time To Dieâ€. Not a bad gig! The song was released a couple of weeks ago. Love that evil Bond chord at the very end!

The Bond chord.
Her singing is certainly seductive, not in a sensual way(yeah right) but it pulls you in, possibly into the song,
where the male of the species may fear to go. that very Boondian struggle between the sexes... perhaps I'm projecting this too far....
Yeah, the evil interval.

I had only heard the Bad Guy single (if that's what it's called) when I saw her on that late night host's Carpool Karaoke segment. She grabbed a uke and played some brief snippets, Beatles song, etc. That's the first I heard her just sing, with that gorgeous vibrato. Still need listen to the actual album. I suspect she's someone to keep an eye on.

Yes, she’s kinda got a Cowboy Junkies thing going on.Donny Hinson wrote:I love the expression, passion, and pain in her voice. She's tremendously talented and does it so well, but I couldn't take a steady diet of that stuff. It's kinda like "music to slit your wrists by".
Mesmerizing, but at the same time, very depressing.
A banjo, like a pet monkey, seems like a good idea at first.

Great line ," music to slit your wrists by". Gotta remember that, Donny.
Maybe something to the Cowboy Junkies comp, Brooks, but (this may be heresy for a Canuck) a much better singer. At age 18.
She is on the cover of this month's Vogue magazine, BTW.
She could indeed mature into something really special.

shes...
....been immensely popular with youngsters (my kids, teens, 20's) for well over a year took the world by storm and is really beloved for her lyrics and voice. To me she is Adele with F-bombs, but I bow down to success, Shes got big mojo. I really tried to like her music but only a couple tunes resonate with me musically.
Also. Her band doesnt need steel guitar, it wouldn't enhance her stuff. Good luck Billie Eilish.

She’s smart enough to realize how good steel would sound with her music. Eventually she’ll use one.
