I just acquired a 1940 Epi Duo Console. It's one of my dream steels, but it's in a parlous state. Some luthier friends are working on rebuilding it, and we have a question on the tone control. Currently it's set up as a bass roll-off wired in reverse, although the dial under the knob is labeled "treble". I know someone already messed around with the wiring, so I'm not sure if this setup is original or not. Every pre-War Epi I've played had a standard treble roll-off, even those with the late '30s bass roll-off circuit, but I haven't played this particular model from this era.
Anyone know how it's supposed to function?
