Nice video of Lucky Oceans! Last time I saw him play live was Berkeley, CA circa 1976, with AATW in their earliest days just getting launched. He's clearly evolved!

I see a bunch of great-looking performances on the Jalopy Theater website. Will there be any classes, vendors, etc? Anything scheduled for the daytime?

Hi Rick!

Hi Rick,

We may have clinics Saturday afternoon. Still working that out. Would you be interested in attending if there were instructional workshops? There will not be vendors like at the much larger steel guitar festivals. This years event will be much more of a curated concert series. There will be 4 performers each evening and drinks and time to chat with everyone afterwards. Hope to see you there!

Great show at the Jalopy Steel Guitar UnConvention last night. Wonderful music from four different acts. But I can’t hardly believe the number of people, young and old, who, in the middle of a set, have no problem whipping out their phones and doing what all with them: texting, Instagramming, what-have-you. Is an amazing set of stunning steel music not enough to hold their interest for 40 minutes? The organizers really need to start saying something when they announce each act, not just at Jalopy but any venue where people need to respect the musicians on stage for putting their all into a performance.

That being said, looking forward to the show tonight!

What a wonderful and unconventional convention....this is a little gem of a steel guitar venue!......Last night, Friday night was wonderful....the highlight of my evening was seeing Dave Easley whom I always wanted to see.....he was accompanied by Larry Eagle on drums (a true master), Nate Radley on guitar who I've seen a couple of times backing Mike Neer, and a bass player who I also don't know......perhaps somebody will jump in and set this straight.....anyhow, this was the perfect storm, a one time, probably a once in a lifetime collaboration...they were just so phenomenal....Dave is an unorthodox player, so unique, interesting, and creative as well as being technically over the top.....they all were....

I look forward to returning tonight......

PS.....Raphael McGregor....what this guy does with 6 strings and no pedals on a plain Mother Of Toilet Seat old lap steel is an awakening of the force....watching his technique and hearing what he gets out of the bare minimum of a steel guitar is a master class of what is possible in the universe....if I have to use one word for Friday night's quality of music & musicians,....that word is AWE......'cause that's what I was in the entire evening.....
