Rotary speaker simulators

Post by Kevin Quick »

Anyone using the Venti 2 out there? Or any of the other pedals? I have the EH B9 pedal and not real happy with it.

I have a EH B9 and Boss RT-20 and can plug in an expression pedal to control the speed.

I've tried a few, and I use the mini-vent. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other pedals, but the sound and size are right

Yea I've been researching the mini. Apparently it doesn't have any way to adjust the ramp speed from fast to slow?

I've been using the Hughes and Kettner Roto-sphere for about 10 years, and always get compliments on how natural and realistic it sounds.

Kevin: Are you looking for a Leslie simulator, or an organ sound?

The EHX B9 is not a leslie/rotary simulator.
It is an organ machine.

They are two different animals.

If you search here on the forum, this has been discussed many times already.

One pedal that *may* do both organ and Leslie sounds is the NUX Roctary.

Yup you're right about the B9 and yes I'm looking for a Leslie sim. After a lot of research I'm pretty much sold on the Neo ventilator 2. Just have a couple of questions about it so I'll start a new thread.
Thanks

I still like my old Digitech RPM-1. Rack unit but it has a lot of adjustments available.

Kevin: OK, so you want a Leslie simulator.

At this point it depends on how much you want to spend, and what is available.

If you're cheap, er, I mean "thrifty", check out a Danelectro Money Laundry or Big Spender or whatever they're called. (They went by two different names for some reason.) The one thing that I did not like about it was that the rate of slow to fast and vise versa takes too long. Otherwise I may have pulled the trigger.

The NuX is not real common, I think it's an overseas pedal.
The videos on it seem pretty good.
It's not super expensive.

From there, the prices start to shoot up real fast.

If all you really want is a thick slow chorus, or a fast wobbly Leslie sound, and don't care about the ramp function, there are a lot of pedals that will do that for cheap.

Can also try the EHX Lester K.

The Vent is more popular though.

The RT-20 is the only digital BOSS pedal I've tried that doesn't sound sterile and clinical to me. Mine delivers a decent rotary speaker sound. I have not tried an organ simulator. I have a deal with the keyboard player: He doesn't try to sound like a steel, and I don't try to sound like an organ.

I use a B9 and RT-20 combo as my organ-tone sim. I want to move to the Neo Vent II, but really wonder how much better it would be. My goal is to sound as close to a B3 as I can...within reason, and I'm having positive results with the RT-20. I'm willing to take this as far as buying, and hauling, a Leslie cab. The RT-20 sounds pretty good for my money so far. I think the Neo is next, unless I just go all the way and buy one of the newest Leslie cabs from Sweetwater. $1500

The big issue is technique. The sim can only do so much.

I have a G37. They are the bomb! However they are a bit bulky to haul around unless you have a van. Also weigh in at 100 lbs.

The Leslie Studio 12 is lighter by 15 pounds and is designed for keyboard use while the G37 is for guitar.

I recently picked up a TC Electronics Vibraclone. Feature set is pretty bare bones, slow/fast and there's the "ramp" setting is fixed. For $60 it sounds great.

To my ears this sounds like the Vibratone, a single rotor guitar Leslie. Hence the moniker 'Vibraclone.'

Nux Roctary

Post by Derrick Unger »

Just ordered a Nux Roctary combo pedal..youtube videos look promising..bought it because it accepts a expression pedal to control speed but could not find any demos addressing that feature specifically...anyone got any feed-back on this??

An RT-20 and B9 with an inexpensive expression pedal is good if you have a spare hand or foot to control and vary the speed.

Strymon Lex is a good sounding Leslie emulator, I think. One nice function is switching between fast and slow speeds with a gradual acceleration / deacceleration like the motor on a rotary device.
