Doesn't look at all like a Sho-Bud to me.

and this

Is this the same one mentioned in Steve's post? He doesn't give a link.
[This message was edited by Jim Phelps on 13 December 2005 at 10:51 PM.]

I'm hardly the expert, but why would "one of the first" Sho-Buds have a Nashville sticker? Didn't this all start in Madison?

I don't think Sho-Bud ever used cables and I don't recall a Bud changer that looked like that one. I think the second one is a Bigsby or a close copy. Bobbe Seymour will know. If it is a Bigsby the selling price will tell the story.

Well if it's an early forties model like it says, Buddy was pretty smart for a kid.

That's obviously a home-built job, probably dating from about 1960. Two pickups, 2 sets of tuning keys, and 4 legs make it worth a couple of hundred, at most. The lack of wear would usually indicate that the builder probably didn't find it very playable. And after all that work!

Pity.

I think that sunburst guitar might be a Lynch, which was a Bigsby knock-off guitar back in the 50's.

EDIT: Or it could be an Electrotone, which was another Bigsby knock-off, or it could be a guitar made from Bigsby parts, like the endplates, legs, pedal bar, and pegheads. But the changers are not Bigsby-type pedal changers.

Even more fishy is the fact that he refers bidders to his Web site for a full array of pics. Anyone notice that this guy is a realtor?

Talk about buying oceanfront property in Arizona.

You know that kind of reminds me of the time I saw someone driving around a motorcycle, probably an old Honda or something, and they'd welded in the words "Harley Davidson" in the side of the tank... Kind of lame.

You never know though - maybe somebody else put that sticker on and the guys selling don't know any better.

Oh man... This Blanton Mike sold me is by far one of the best, if not the best steel I've ever played. I changed the copedent around a little and made some adjustments here and there for my requirements, and it's been a pleasure so far. I let a couple of other steel players give it a whirl and they both loved it too. I mean the design is almost perfect. The tuning under the cab... Easy. Thanks Mike!

Hey Bobbe S., didn't you mention in another thread once that Bigsby used the card suits for fret markers too, before Sho-Bud even? My guess is that this guitar is an old Bigsby that's been refinished, as well as changed some stuff around on too - kind of like a Heinz 57.

As for the other one... I guess it's probably not, but there's something about it that reminds me of an old ZB Custom...?

Okay, not a Bigsby; say no more Bobbe.
Looks like whatever it is, it's going to go for a fairly high price.

Sounds like a story that is worth waiting on!!

Edit: OK so you said the original builder had called you on the phone to tell you it was on Ebay-----Paul Bigsby is dead...so that at least rules out Bigsby.

Edit2. Uh ohh. I forgot that there were TWO guitars in the original topic. The plot thickens!

Steve, I edited the comments I made on the request of the buyer. My first comments were edited because of trying to be fair to the seller.
In reality, I probably should not have posted anything about the guitar at all. I just didn't realize the emotions involved in this sale.
Steve, email me someday and I'll be glad to give you any info the buyer deems appropriate.
What was interesting was the price the buyer woul-------------> nuff said.

Ah ha! I knew it all along!!(Just kidding Bobbe) Image But I do know what that thing is: it's a wooden box with metal gadgetry and strings on it.
That's my judgement and I'm sticking to it.
[This message was edited by Duane Reese on 19 December 2005 at 12:51 PM.]

at $2645 this is very curious to say the least.

Can someone at least state that this is a rare piece..or NOT ?

we know we don't want to offend anyone,,but geesh..this is the Internet..and EBAY..and this is a forum...

my take would be one of two things..

a very rare one of piece built by somone who went on to become a very famous builder or maybe player...

or

NOT...
