Table Top Stringie Thing
I know we've all read posts before mentioning the numerous names people not knowing what it is, have called a pedal steel guitar. This one just happened to me this weekend, and it seems original and pretty funny. We were at a Casino lounge, where volume is sometimes an issue. The manager told our band leader that everything was okay, but could we do something about the volume of the table top stringie thing.
We were able to move my amp to a spot where I could still hear it well, but where its volume didn't bother anyone.

Man,. I keep telling you guys, the name Pedal Sgeel Guitar is too many words. People can't remember that many. We have to change the name of the instrument to one word that people can remember.
I still say we should call it a TIFKATSPG.
(The Instrument Formerly Known As The Pedal Steel Guitar.)
I'm not fat. I'm horizontally enhanced.

Still like the
Horizontal Hawaiian Harp
I bought a cheap computer table to use as a steel work station tonight.
felt/rubber wooden mounts for a flipped over steel going on tomorrow.
Well the Thai guy I bought it from, Bok, delivered it.
I wheeled the table to the Sierra S-14; perfect fit, and for the bud too.
Well he sees the S-14... and all thought of getting paid left his mind.
He and the assistant were mesmerized.
WHAT is that!!!!
So I had to play it, they made the connection between it and a currently running
bank TV and radio ad with some nice Hawaiian guitar in it.
But then they started looking undernieth,
and making expanding contracting moves around their heads with both hands....
I flipped it over to show why I wanted the table, and they were still agog.
The boss made comments about my apparent IQ and coordination.
"No one in Thailand play this... it so nice,
nice, very nice!"
SO.. I guess we have another steel fan here LOL.
I'll have to get him a few tunes on a cd.
I bet I will get good deals on furniture in the future for sure.<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by David L. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">quote:</font><HR><SMALL>That might work if it's played by Mr. Myxtyplyx.
You mean Mr. Mxyzptlk?</SMALL><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
I see I'm not the only Smallville fan around here.
Since Lex is aready a musician, maybe we can get the powers that be on the show have him studying the steel.
Or better yet, they could bring in the band from the Peter Fonda film "Race With the devil" in which the steel player is possessed. (If you haven't seen it, it's unintentionally very funny.) Since they've already had Lana become first a reincarnated witch, and then a vampire, it won't be too much of a stretch.
uh, what were we talking about?

This one is still my favorite....
Mike Johnstone was playing his D10 on a gig once when somebody came up to the guitar player, pointed at Mike and said, "You guys are good, but the guy in the wheelchair is really good!"<font size="1" color="#8e236b"><p align="center">[This message was edited by Skip Edwards on 26 November 2005 at 06:27 PM.]</p></FONT>

I was presented on the radio recently (was in a live broadcast with performing songwriter David Zink), as having played the "Steel Pedal guitar".

I thought Lonzo and Oscar called that Cousin Jody thing an "epileptic lap organ".
I once put a sign on my guitar for people who liked to grab the strings. "MAFIA CHEESE SLICER ..... You toucha my slicer, I breaka you face".

I seem to recall seeing it referred to that way in the liner motes to a Beach Boys album.<SMALL>I was presented on the radio recently ... as having played the "Steel Pedal guitar".</SMALL>
My comment about calling it a "TIFKATPSG" is of course just a joke, but in all seriousness, I think it would be better if our instument's name was just one word.
