Hi Jack G. Wow, we do have a few Jacks on this post. Being from DeLand and having just done a search, Catfish Johnny’s is about 65 miles west (1 1/2 hours) from downtown DeLand. I went there years ago, but I was living in New Smyrna at the time.
I hope that this helps and that you have a great trip if you go.

Catfish Johnny's Restaurant is on CR470, about 3 miles north (may seem like west) of I75 Exit 321.
Not sure which route is best from Deland, but SR44 west, and about 5 miles west of I75 is CR470 to Lake Panasoffkee. About 6 miles south (east) is Catfish Johnny's.
We have had monthly, 2nd Wednesday of the month, steel jams there since 9/11/2002. We do stop for a couple months in the summer. The jam this month will be the first for this season. We should have 5 or 6 steels this month. In the prime snowbird season we've had up to 16 steels at a jam. This month we should have myself, Jack Dougherty, Fred Thompson, Ben Lawson and possibly Jr Reich, plus whoever else shows up. Our criteria is we don't have any. If you want to play at the jam we don't care if you are a beginner or a pro. Pedal Steel, lap steel, dobro. We usually have one or two "roundrobbins" where each steeler gets to play the same song. Then we switch to each steeler doing instrumentals individually.
The restaurant lets us use the space and stage equipment without charge. Most of us patronize the restaurant as a "payback" (and the good food). Wednesday special is usually all you can eat Alaska Sea Perch.

Just found out that this jam has resurfaced. How come it isn't listed on the Catfish Johnnie website or their Facepoop page? Is it a secret?
Thanks
K

It never stopped, even though the Florida Steel Guitar Club was disbanded. We take a break in the Summer then resume in September.
Its not a Catfish Johnny's Restaurant produced event. The restaurant just lets the jam use the facility. What they put on their web site or Facebook page is up to the restaurant.
