I thought Paul used a changer on each end. Similar to a BMI push pull.

Paul has done double-changers; Ed Bierly has an S-10 prototype like that. The later-model S-12 that I have has a single changer at the bridge. It is a pull-release that is capable of double lowers.

Ed's guitar is not a double changer. It merely has the changer on the left end of the guitar. I built three prototypes....Ed's is #2. I still have #1, and Carl Tucker has #3 which not only has the changer on the left end, but also has a cast aluminum neck/deck insert in place of wood. The double changer guitars some of you might be thinking of were Whitney guitars. Pull on the right to raise; tune and lower on the left.
Yes, this is a pull/release guitar. This guitar can be changed to a "leftie" with no extra parts required and nothing left over. The only thing that would need to be changed would be the fretboard as I offset my dots to the front. Aside from that, the guitar is designed totally symmetrical.

All of these pictures are of my proto #1. Its frame was fabricated from off-the-shelf aluminum angle. The production models such as the one Jim has at his shop all have custom extruded frame rails and there are no "notches" in the rails where the legs attach. I also use four small screws now to hold the solid gaged nut in place on 10's, and five screws on 12's. These have a 24.50" scale like the old Fender's, but the body is only 27.50" long. They are only 7.00" wide. The guitar Jim has at his shop is 29-1/2 pounds in the case. That guitar also has a "new" L705 pickup in it and the guitar sounds great.

This is S-12 E9/B6 Uni I built for myself a couple years ago. This has 7FP and 8KL plus a Sacred Steel lock
setup.

Overcrowding at the left end of the guitar is what made me decide to abandon the left-end changer idea. VKL is similar to one I installed on one of Sonny Jenkins' guitars a long time ago.
