Gene Wooten Passes

Post by Kenny Davis »

On the CMA awards tonight, Larry Cordle mentioned that Gene Wooten passed away this morning. If so, we've lost a great player and a great person. If anyone has any information, please post.

I called Gene several months ago, to see if he could take a look at an old Dobro that I had purchased. I met him at the Station Inn, and we talked for a good while about dobros, music, and so on. I hung out for a couple sets to hear him. It was a time that I really enjoyed, and he was a great guy and a superb player. Rest easy, Gene.

I am so sorry to hear about Gene. He taught me so much about Dobro. He was a walking Dobro library. He was always the first one I would call on for information. He always had the answer. I bought my first Dobro from him.

May he rest in peace.
