Hello there brother Duckworth

Always glad to hear from you. To answer your inquiry the answer is yes, I use a Stevens Bar. After using a bullet bar, and loosing about about a half dozen bars, under the bed, couch, dresser, and every other place, I had to have something that I could hold on to. I had to round off the front and rear, so that these stiffening fingers could still slide across the fret bar markers. But even now, I`ve played so much, that most of the time I now play with my eyes closed. Thanks for asking my dear friend, the best to you, and your beloved, be Blessed!

I dip my bars several times in Plasti-Dip. It's made for screwdriver handles, pliers, etc. After it's completely dry I score around the playing surface with an Xacto knife and peel the rubberised plastic away.
These bars never fall out of my hand.

Great job as always Bishop Hall, putting my 2 cents in on the bar, i went to a sp-1 shubb and i like it, i started with a grip type bar in the 50's when i started, i have tried 2 bullets and a stevens, like the sp-1 the best especially for my 8 string.. keep the songs coming i really enjoy them...and thanks for the critique on my playing i will take all the help i can. Phil PS.I keep my bar in a M&Ms blue cylindrical candy tube...

You know, I tried that shubb SP-1 bar, for a quick minute, and after I got tangled up with that pointed tip, I gave it up too. I went back to the standard Stevens bar, and modified it by rounding the edges with my trusty belt sander, and it has my weapon of choice ever since. Thanks for your encouragement though. Keep up the good work!

Ronnie...A fellow made me a couple bars (different lengths) a few years ago that are great for people with old age hand syndrome. They're polished stainless, round with fluted sides and round on both ends. I paid 60 or 65 bucks and worth every penny. If you're interested I'll give the info. I always enjoy your song. I love that tone; I assume you use some kind of effect. Mind sharing?

I`m glad to hear from you, and your offer to help. But after 64, going on 65 years of playing with my adapted Stevens bar, I`m pretty much satisfied with it.(smile) My recorded sound is nothing fantastic. I just add a little echo to the recording, and I guess it is just my touch that gives me that quality of tone. I hope it`s not a disappointment, but that is just the way it comes out. Thanks for asking, and thanks for your support, it means a lot.
