Ca. Hank Thompson. Any real music fans of his around?

Post by LJ Eiffert »

I have a interview of Hank Thompson that no body but Al Parrett has scene. It's a short one & one with Marty Haggard. Also, a video of George Strait & Randy Owens with Charlie Chase & I Leo J Eiffert Jr from the TV show Crook & Chase that was done at one of the Academy Of Country Music Award Show. What you think & who cares? ;-)

Thanks Barry!

The album, At The Golden Nugget, on which this great song appears was considered (at that time) to be the finest example of a live location recording. The whole album is excellent and is available on CD.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

Always a treat to hear Hank and the Brazos Valley Boys. My kind of music.

Bobby Garrett's t/a on Oklahoma Hills is killer.

Not Bobby, but a more recent rendition from TNN with TW cuttin' up and tearin' it down.

Hank was one of my old time favorites. I met him once and we had a very nice chat. What a really nice fellow, very pleasant. Hey, hey bartender, I want a six pack to go; and remember Rub a dub dub three men in a tub sailing the ocean blue. I used to get requests to sing his song, blackboard of my heart. I know many of you remember those days, yeah the good ones.

Count me in as a huge Hank Thompson fan. I saw him here in Oklahoma in his later years and he would sing and smile like he had never played before...and you know he had done those songs thousands of times before. Great performer even then....at our dances I usually do Oklahoma Hills, 6 Pack to Go and Blackboard of my heart, and the folks always like those tunes. I have a video of him that is about 2 hours long with his performances and interviews...I also have his book called "My Side of Life"....very interesting..maybe X rated in parts, but great book. I stopped in Waco Texas at the Chamber of Commerce and asked where his grave site is, and no one had ever heard of him...and they were in their 60s too, not youngsters...I gave them a hard time, said they should do their homework if they were to work in the CofC....shameful ! Told them he was the most famous person from Waco and they said no that was the banjo player and comedian..Steve Martin.
I also have a recording called Treasures that are songs that he and his band recorded in OKC but Capitol records never wanted...some pretty good tunes too. You should check out the Mills Brothers tribute he did...Curly Chalker all over it...great recording. I LOVE Hank Thompson !

His band was one that everyone in the business wanted. It was the best, and he treated them like the best. He was a great singer too.
