Registery problems

Post by winston »

I have a HP slimline that was running vista. The guy that owns it was having problems so he installed win 7
and while it was restoring the registry files the electric went off, then he brought it to me. The hard drive is bad so I put a new one in, installed win7 with no problems except one. Windows update would not and will not work regardless of what I have been doing. I used microsoft hot fix, and everything microsoft offered. Did the scandisk with no luck. Still will not update. Is there a way to fix a damaged Registry?? thanks in advance. winston may

Do an in-place upgrade/repair installation. That should repair associations and permissions. Just make sure you keep files and settings.

Wiz
That did not work. Now I cannot install IE 11. At one time I installed IE 11 and it worked fine but I have never been able to get automatic downloads to work.

Can you download Windows Updates manually, via the Start Menu link? There are prerequisite updates before you can install IE 11.
