Lots of details, but the main difference is the Encore has a proper all-pull changer and changeable copedent. The Stage One is less adjustable, has fixed copedent and a more basic pull-release changer

Do yourself a favor and call Doug. He can give you a run down and help you pick whats best for you.

You forgot to mention TONE.
If you can be happy with the (mostly) fixed copedent, and can live without the splits (wait, the only strings that raise and lower are the Es), the Stage One just sounds better.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

If only they'd invent a "search" feature which would let you sort through the past posts to see if a question had been discussed once before - or even several times before!

Try this one for example:

Search function is your friend, you will find many many reviews/pics and so on about the two steels.

It's really a topic that has been beaten to death, but you will find everything you are looking for in the previous threads. I'm due up for my Encore this month. Can not wait!

Is this opinion based on a personal side by side comparison, or just speculation?

Joe, I not only put a "wink" smiley on my reply to show levity was intended, but DID provide you with a link to a very useful previous thread which was almost identical to what you asked. Hopefully there is enough info there to get you well on your way.

That said, it IS a bit tedious when every month or two someone starts a new thread with an old question. I'm active on a car forum, a railroad forum and a couple others, and all of them have a "SEARCH" option - it's sort of a "Forum use 101" thing for all forums, not just this one.

No offense intended by me, and by all means if you have specific questions not answered in previous threads post them here, someone will be glad to help you.
