I tried to watch the ACM
but the guy was playing a six string banjo another a double neck guitar and the stage was on fire. I give up, back to American Pickers reruns.

You know I'm mostly in agreement with you guys concerning this thing, but it sort of makes us look bad criticizing it. We sort of know what to expect...so no surprises.
I lost interest and clicked away several times just due to the marathon commercial breaks, but I feel obligated in a way to just keep up with what's going on.
There were some highlights like seeing a steel guitar a few times. The latter duet ballad "Fire Away" tune with Chris Stapleton and the lady was drenched with fabulous, beautiful steel guitar all the way through.
Some of the costumes were ridiculous. I don't know what they were thinking with Dolly and Katy.
Other than the spot mentioned above with CS, the best thing to me was Billy Gibbons. Not country, but....

I listened for 2 hours last night and didn't hear a song that I would call country. Young folks, who need a category
to call their own, have taken over country and made it their own. They make it OK by wearing a cowboy hat. I don't think they will stop calling it their own, so we must make another category for older style music and call it something different. Old Country, tho thats not what we need to call it.
If there is enough support, radio stations, record companies, places that say we accept only the old style of music, then it may stand a chance, as long as people accept it. If not, then accept what is. And Goodnight.

Like the so-called talent contests The Voice, American Idol, etc. the CMA and ACM awards shows become more and more each year about the "stars" themselves and less and less about virtually everything else. Such being the case, you'd think that occasionally they would present themselves in a somewhat better light... but no.

Before yesterday I had never heard of Chris Stapleton. Since he apparently is the top star I went to youtube to listen to a few of his songs to get an impression of him.
My impression is he has a very interesting voice and vocal styling somewhat reminescent fo the late Steve Young, but a bit coarser/grittier. His songs that I heard all seem terminally slow. The percussion and rhythm in the songs are somewhat annoying.
I wonder what other people's impressions are? Those are just my initial impressions and also I wonder why people are drawn to his styling?

I think the burden should be on them to categorize the crap they now support. After all, we were here first...Young folks, who need a category

One last thought on the ACM awards - I saw very few among the performers who could answer that question "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?"

Darrell I bought his latest album. I've listened about four times to it. His voice is very good, almost like a sixties soul singer. Robbie Turner's steel is featured on two thirds of the material and it's very good. My problem with it is that I find nothing quite memorable. The younger guys go crazy over "Tennessee Whiskey", but me, I don't.Darrell Criswell wrote:Before yesterday I had never heard of Chris Stapleton.

Fender Kingman, Sierra Crown D-10, Evans Amplifier, Soup Cube.

I watched off and on about as much as I could stomach. I did catch Chris Stapleton's performance. It was the closest thing to Country music that I heard. It would be nice if his success moved others more in that direction and away from the bad rock hybrid the genre has too often been.Darrell Criswell wrote:I wonder what other people's impressions are?
